	There was nothing functionally wrong with the slipstream drive itself other than the variances becoming difficult to navigate once physically in the slipstream. They could have made several small jumps (purposely shutting down the slipstream each time things got bumpy, or even for a pre-determined time with an automatic shutdown estimated for before things got bumpy) and been home in a matter of days, weeks, or months (better than the 46-ish years remaining at this point.) At the very least it appeared normal warp wasn't hindered by the existence of the slipstream components, they could have left the hardware installed for use as backup in case of an emergency and for testing.
	Voyager is supposedly frozen, yet when Kim and Chakotay walk around the remains, their breath is not visible.
