The Clown was a manifestation of the fears of five individuals who were part of a linked neural network. The Clown was clearly insane, demonstrating mood swings and erratic behavior. For nineteen years he tortured the inhabitants of the network, killing three of them, but at the same time refusing to let them leave as that would end his own existence. When Kim and Torres were held hostage inside the network, Janeway concocted a plan to rescue them involving a hologram. As the system shut down around him, The Clown admitted his own fear before disappearing into darkness.

PLAYED BY: Thomas Kopache
SPECIES: Kohl Male

Viorsa and four other Kohl settlers entered hibernation chambers deep below the planet's surface when solar flares temporarily disrupted the planet's climate in 2353. The chambers were equipped with a virtual reality environment, allowing the Kohl to keep their minds active during the hibernation. Sadly Viorsa died inside the simulation.

PLAYED BY: Tony Carlin
SPECIES: Kohl Male

The Kohl physician was one of Viorsa's companions in his virtual reality stasis program. He survived an environmental catastrophe by going into artificial hibernation. The computer controlling the hibernation had manifested the worst fears of he and his companions subconscious minds into the persona of an evil Clown.

PLAYED BY: Shannon O'Hurley
SPECIES: Kohl Female

The Kohl programmer was one of Viorsa's companions in his virtual reality stasis program which they used to survive an environmental catastrophe by going into artificial hibernation. An evil Clown which was the manifestation of her and the others worst fears of their subconscious minds held them prisoners.

PLAYED BY: Patty Maloney
SPECIES: N/A

The little woman was one of the Clown's creations in Viorsa's virtual reality program. She was the first of the characters, other than the Clown, to respond to Harry Kim and B'Elanna Torres' presence in the program, and participated in the Clown's subsequent torture of his "guests."

PLAYED BY: Carel Struycken
SPECIES: N/A

The Spectre greeted Harry Kim and B'Elanna Torres shortly after their entry into the program and was present throughout most of their ordeal. When the Clown was feeling glum, the Spectre suggested that he take his frustrations out on the hostages rather than the other characters, which inspired the Clown to play the "insect game."
