SPECIES: Human MaleBeginning
his work on The Doctor, Zimmerman initially contemplated making
various additions to The Doctor, but when The Doctor protested
at Zimmerman's inability to accept him as he was, Zimmerman's
anger and frustration at what had happened to the Mark Is came
to the fore, ranting about the negative reaction of Starfleet to
the other Mark I EMHs and his own grief at the garbage cleaners
they had become. As Zimmerman sank into a chair in depression,
The Doctor offered an awkward moment of comfort to him,
reminding Zimmerman that he was still doing the job he was
designed for and was actually rather good at it.
This encounter
marked the first steps in their near-father/son relationship,
with The Doctor confessing that he'd hoped Zimmerman would be
proud of his achievements if the two of them ever met, and
Zimmerman admitting that, for all his anger about the fate of
the other Mark Is, he was grateful that at least one of them was
still doing what Zimmerman had designed them for.
Before The
Doctor departed, Zimmerman slightly grudgingly posed for a
photograph with his "son", and said that The Doctor could drop
them a communication the next time his ship got the chance to do
so. |

SPECIES: HologramHaley was the
closest thing to a friend Dr. Zimmerman had. Some time prior to
2376, Zimmerman was attending an important symposium on Vulcan
when Haley's holographic matrix began to fail. Zimmerman
canceled his lecture and returned immediately to Jupiter Station
to repair it.
Haley also worked for him while he designed the first Emergency
Medical Hologram. She remembered how proud he was that his
creation would be saving lives throughout the quadrant; he even
modeled it after himself, which she understood as he'd put so
much of himself into the program.
While serving as his secretary at Jupiter Station, she also
served as a personal assistant, and prepared his meals. When he
came down with a degenerative virus, she insisted that he eat
more salad because it was healthy, and made it several times,
despite his request for pork chops.
When Zimmerman was convinced that he would die of the virus, he
dictated in his will a request that Haley's program be allowed
to run for as long as Jupiter Station remained in service.
She also had a working friendship with Reginald Barclay, who was
an acquaintance of Zimmerman's. Barclay had served on Jupiter
Station while the EMH was being designed. Barclay also
occasionally told her stories of his adventures on the
Enterprise, and about his friends there, including Counselor
Deanna Troi and her love of chocolate.
When The Doctor's holomatrix began to apparently fail – actually
a "glitch" designed by Barclay and the others to encourage The
Doctor and Zimmerman to work together – Haley encouraged
Zimmerman to work with The Doctor by reminding him of the time
he'd cancelled a symposium just to help her, forcing him to
acknowledge that he was fond of The Doctor in his own way.

SPECIES: Human MaleAdmiral Hayes
sent another message to the Voyager after regular communications
were established through the MIDAS array, informing Janeway that
they had dispatched two deep-space vessels towards the Voyager's
position and requesting information on the ship's mission and
status of the Maquis. Janeway was troubled that Starfleet still
saw the Maquis as a separate entity, since she now considered
them all part of her crew. |
