SPECIES: Human Maleohn Torres was
the father of B'Elanna Torres and former husband of Miral. He
married Miral despite his mother's reservations, and for a few
years was happily married. However, the strain of living with
two Klingons began to get the better of him, and when B'Elanna
was around 11 years old, he left her and her mother, a
fact B'Elanna blamed herself for. |

SPECIES: Human/Klingon FemaleThe
alienation continued when her own father began distancing
himself from them. At one time, when B'Elanna was on a camping
trip with her father, her uncle Carl and her cousins Elizabeth,
Dean and Michael, she overheard her father complaining about
her, likening her moody and angry behavior to that of her
mother's, Miral, and that he had a hard time living with two
Klingons. John Torres finally left
the Federation colony and traveled back to Earth in 2354, when
B'Elanna was five years old, never to return to his family
again. For months after, B'Elanna cried herself to sleep every
night, wondering what had made her father leave and if it was
her fault.
However, she never talked about her feelings of guilt
and shame to anyone and eventually decided for herself that her
father had left because she looked and acted Klingon. These
kinds of set backs resulted in B'Elanna developing a thick skin,
often punching her way through life. She often blamed her
Klingon temper having gotten her in trouble all the time. She
even attempted to change her appearance to look more Human; an
insecurity that remained with her for most of her life,
culminating in her trying to genetically alter all of her unborn
child's Klingon features when she was pregnant with her daughter
in 2377. |

SPECIES: Human MaleDean and his
family went on a fishing trip with his Uncle John and cousin
B'Elanna. After fishing, they took a break to have lunch. He
somewhat cruelly picked a worm off the ground, and put it on
B'Elanna's sandwich, as he said his "teacher told him Klingons
like eating live food." B'Elanna got angry and pushed him over,
and his older sister yelled at him, telling B'Elanna he does
things like this to her all the time. But B'Elanna ran off into
the woods angry, and wouldn't return to the camp until after
nightfall. |

SPECIES: Human FemaleShe went
camping with her uncle John and cousin B'Elanna. She went
camping often, and her uncle was known for not catching many
fish when they went fishing. After her uncle and father went
fishing on their own, she and the other kids went fishing in a
different section of the lake. After a while, they had lunch,
and she gave a sandwich to B'Elanna, trying to be nice to her.
But her little brother put a worm on it, and B'Elanna ran off.
Elizabeth later apologized for her brother, but B'Elanna was too
angry to listen. |

SPECIES: Human Male
While on a camping trip with his family,
Uncle John, and his cousin B'Elanna, he watched as his brother
Dean put a worm on B'Elanna's sandwich. The two then found it
funny, but neither Elizabeth or B'Elanna did, as B'Elanna
stormed off until after nightfall.
B'Elanna later remembered the trip as a major point in her life,
when she was made fun of because of her Klingon heritage. |
