Gotana-Retz was an astronaut from Kelemane's planet, a planet
with a tachyon core which caused a differential in space-time
such that each second that passed on the orbiting USS Voyager
was the equivalent of an entire day on his planet.
Retz was part of a mission, Orbital 1, sent to investigate the
ancient "Sky Ship" which was revered by the people of his
planet. He managed to survive the time shift after entering
Voyager. When Captain Janeway explained the situation he agreed
to help to find a solution to Voyager's problems.
A short time later Voyager came under attack from the surface.
Janeway asked him to return to the planet to explain the
situation, ensure the attack stops and enlist the help of his
people. Retz agreed.
Retz returned to his planet with specifications of Voyager and
convinced his people to help Voyager break orbit. Two ships from
the planet surface returned and used a tractor beam to break
Voyager free. Retz used a temporal compensator to travel to
Voyager and say goodbye. As an old man, he witnessed Voyager
finally leave from a hilltop.

He
was a Protector on a planet that USS Voyager visited and became
caught in its orbit in 2376. The planet rotated at a
differential space-time rate that made time pass more quickly
there than on Voyager. When Voyager tried to break orbit, it
caused dangerous gravitational shifts on the planet.
Kelemane's ancestors believed that Voyager was either an angry
deity that shook their planet or a new star. He believed that
there was life on this star and decided to attempt to contact
the star's protector. He planned on asking the protector of
Voyager to stop the gravitational shift. He ordered his teacher
to compose a letter, and he sent the letter up in a hot-air
balloon.

Unlike his ancestors who at first thought Voyager was a god and
then a star with people on it, he knew it was a Sky Ship. When
he was young he did not have any of the Sky Ship Friends toys,
as his grandfather would not allow it. His grandfather told him
that the sky ship was a palace inhabited by an evil prince where
bad children went.
He eventually sent a verbal message to Voyager informing them
that the planet meant them no harm and that the ground shaken
caused by Voyager's attempt to break orbit was causing
considerable damage to the planet. Voyager did get his message,
but due to the space-time differential, by the time the message
reached Voyager, the astronomer had been dead for over one
hundred years.

The
Cleric was a confidant and teacher to Kelemane. He taught
Kelemane to abandon the old superstitions regarding the "Ground
Shaker".
Kelemane believed that Voyager was a star with people on it and
summoned the cleric to write a letter to the protector on that
star, which he did — in English.

The
Technician was an assistant to the astronomer who was trying to
contact Voyager.
As a young boy, he had all of the sky ship toys. He was tired of
trying to contact Voyager and believed that the crew might be
dead. He suggested to the astronomer to send a voice message. By
the time Voyager received the messages, the astronomer and
technician had been dead for over a hundred years.

Tureena was one of two astronauts from Kelemane's planet sent to
make contact with USS Voyager in the Orbital 1 spacecraft, along
with pilot Gotana-Retz. Tureena was in command.
After losing contact with Launch Control, Tureena decided to
dock with Voyager and enter the ship. She and the other
astronaut found the crew motionless due to a time differential.
As she and the other astronaut transferred to Voyager's time
frame, her body was unable to adjust and she died.

While preparing an offering to his god, he
discovered Voyager, which had become trapped in a gravimetric
gradient that pulled it into an orbit where it became trapped.
He believed it to be another god opposing his old god, Tahal,
and feared this "new god" because it caused the ground to shake. |

The tribal alien was consulted by the Shaman
who explained how the new god had appeared suddenly. The tribal
alien believed that this new god was jealous of their old god
Tahal, and that the fire fruit which was offered to the old god
should be given only to the new god, something that would
appease the new god and stop the ground from shaking. |
